Woke up to fog but it cleared nicely and turned out to be a lovely day – around 50 or so. We got up, had breakfast and coffee, and left around 10:00 AM. Destination today was Milwaukee, about a two hour drive.
Our first stop in Milwaukee was the Harley Davidson Museum. During the off season, they have $10.00 Tuesdays, which worked for us. The normal price is $17.00 for adult and $14.00 for senior. The Harley Davidson Museum was very nice if you’re into motorcycles. It gave the history and showed the many uses over the years – post office, military, delivery, etc. Very interesting. At the end they have some motorcycles you can sit on and have a picture emailed to you.
We left and headed for the Milwaukee Art Museum. We had been told it was a very unique building and quite beautiful. They were right. It’s almost like the Sydney, Australia opera building that is so iconic. Just beautiful. We parked in the parking garage (first fifteen minutes are free and after that it was $7.00 per hour). We walked up the stairs to get the admission tickets. We were told the exhibits were all being reworked, except for one. We were also told we could walk all over the white marble area for free, which we opted to do. Lovely. The building itself was worth seeing. Anyway, we were able to get back to our car and the nice lady in the parking booth let us out for free, even though we were late. Works for me.
Next stop – Cheesecake Factory restaurant. Saw some of Milwaukee on the way.
Got to mark that CF off my list of Cheesecake Factory restaurants we’ve visited. Don’t think I’ll ever get to eat at all of them but I’ll keep trying. There are two in the Milwaukee area, this one was in the Mayfair Mall area. As usual it was very beautiful – copper and Egyptian looking artwork. The food was a little bit of a disappointment (the bread was stale, and the onion rings were cold). Michael got a BBQ chicken salad, and I got the shepherd’s pie. I also got a carrot cake cheesecake to go. I try to change it up one day (but not right now).
By this time it was around 3:30 PM and we headed towards Madison, Wisconsin. We were hoping to get to go inside the Frank Loyd Wright building, and also inside the Capitol building. Madison is a very cute town with lots of old looking schools and churches. We got to see the Frank Loyd Wright place, but the building looked closed. We then drove to the Capitol, parked, and went inside. Such a beautiful building. So glad we stopped and got to see it. Michael and I talked and we both decided Madison, as cute as it is, doesn’t call to us to come back.
We got home around 6:00 PM, tired. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
