Aaron and Arla move to Las Vegas

JANUARY 5-9, 2018

Lots of things going on. Our son and his girlfriend decided to move to Las Vegas because the prospects for a much better life, and a much more affordable life, abound there. When we went to Las Vegas a month or so ago we looked at different apartments they wanted us to check out. They also mentioned a really nice apartment that they had gone into and then immediately left because they knew it would be too expensive. Anyway, after looking at the ones they wanted us to, and a few we found, we really fell in love with the Henderson area and concentrated our looking there. We went into the apartment they thought was way too expensive and fell in love with the location, the staff, and the apartment amenities. It is much more a resort than an apartment. We were able to get a “special rate” for the kids when they moved.

Back in Prunedale, it was quite the trick for the kids going through things to decide what they wanted to keep and what they needed to get rid of. I think they realized they were not the minimalists they thought they were.

The real fun part was getting their queen sized mattress into the back of their Kia Soul. Michael was able to fold it up into garbage bags and then use the vacuum to suck the air out. We were all betting on when it would explode in the car, but it didn’t. It managed really well the whole trip.

I didn’t have a ladder big enough to get into the attic.

What my beloved Son won’t do for me. Aaron on a step stool with Arla on his shoulders trying to get a box for me from the attic. What could go wrong?

Michael, Aaron, and Arla and their dogs (our grandpuppies) left in Aaron and Arla’s vehicles early in the morning.

They were both fully loaded.

Michael drove the Kia Soul and he said it was pretty comfortable the whole trip (they decided to do it in just one day). They left early so they could get into Henderson, get their keys to their new apartment, and unpack. The trip was pretty uneventful. I stayed home to help Alexis with the baby (a job I love).

Their trip was approximately 500 miles and took about 9 hours.

Michael stayed in Las Vegas to help the kids unload, unpack, and put together a few items.

He then flew home to San Jose. He said the kids love their new place and are adjusting well. We are happy for them but will miss them. That was our big news in January.
