Prosper to Holly Lake Ranch, TX – 9/17/2016
September 17, 2016 (Saturday)
When we woke up, Natalie had made the most delicious baked French toast, fresh fruit, and coffee. Such a wonderful treat. Her husband and one of the boys were leaving early for a baseball game about a half an hour away. We were going to join them in a little bit, with Natalie navigating while we visited more and finished eating.
It was HOT! And HUMID! Sitting on the bleachers with no shade in Texas – good thing it was to see our great-nephew play baseball. Natalie seemed like it was a normal thing to have your body drenched in sweat (within a few minutes). She said they called it swassy (you can figure out what it means- has to do with sweat going down your back and what you sit on). Anyway, they played great. Felt like we were watching professional ball players out there, not freshmen in high school.
We said our goodbyes in the parking lot after the ball game. What a great visit and we’re looking forward to seeing them again on one of our trips through the area. We have been through Texas many times and have never been “wowed” by it. This time we were determined to find something beautiful in Texas and that’s why we booked Holly Lake Ranch Resort. Because we spent the night with Natalie and her family, we had called the resort to tell them we would be a day late. They noted it down and said they would see us on Saturday before 8:00 PM (when they close the check-in building).
The drive to Holly Lake Ranch was a around 125 miles, LONG TEXAS MILES. With all the twisting and turning of the roads onto farm roads, it took almost three LONG hours before we arrived. Must admit – it’s lovely here. Lots of trees and greenery, something we haven’t seen a lot of naturally in Texas.
Our room is more like a cabin in the woods, which is nice, but it’s old, creaky, and in desperate need of rehabbing. We’re hoping with the new takeover (Holiday Inn Vacation Club buying out Silverleaf), they will do something about it, especially since there is no internet, again. Also, not much cell service either. (And no washer and dryer.)
That was our day. Hope yours was great!
