Ronald Reagan Library to Morro Bay, California – 4/27/2015
April 26, 2015 (Sunday)
Woke up to beautiful Southern California sunshine! Got up and went to the breakfast at the La Quinta Inn and Suites, which consisted of cereals, waffles, yogurt, bagels, juices, coffee and tea.
We were out of our hotel room by 9:30 AM and heading to Simi Valley (only about ten miles away).
On our way to Ronald Reagan Library and Museum, we saw a garage sale and stopped to check it out. I figured we had a few extra inches of space in the Prius that I could fill with cute things we found at the garage sale. What fun. Also, the people hosting the garage sale were interesting to talk to as they’re wanting to start traveling.
We got to the Ronald Reagan Library and Museum and in the front parking lot area we saw a bunch of Teslas and a bunch of De Loreans. We asked why they were there and a docent told us they had a car club meeting for them.
We walked in to get our tickets ($13.00 per person) and noticed how different this was compared to the Nixon Library and Museum. The Reagan Library and Museum was much more relaxed and fun to explore. It was HUGE! They had Air Force 1 on display where we could go through and check it out, another helicopter to go through, lots of cars to check out. It took us a few hours to explore thing, and we didn’t do a totally thorough job.
We left and headed North along the Coast, which was beautiful. Our drive today was to Morro Bay, around 200 miles from Simi Valley. Yesterday we had tried to get in touch with some friends from “back in the day” when our kids were little. They were next door neighbors and good friends. We left a message on an old phone number we had but weren’t even sure if it was their phone number or not as it had been so long since we had seen them (2008). When we got into Oxnard, and were just getting ready to have linner at an El Torito, we got a call from Manuel and Mirta and made arrangements to visit them after we ate. We were so glad we heard back from them as we love them so.
We had a wonderful linner at El Torito. On Sunday they don’t have a regular menu until 2:00 PM – they have a brunch with a huge array of different foods. Michael and I both hurt ourselves trying to get our money’s worth. I especially enjoyed their shrimp cerviche. Really good. They also had a great salad and fruit selection.
We got into Ventura around 2:00 PM and had a great (but short) visit with Manuel and Mirta. They are doing so well and haven’t changed at all. We got all caught up on their kids, our kids (they were all around the same age and spent a lot of time together back when they were little), and family. They’ve done a lot of traveling and are getting ready to go to Machu Picchu and the Galapagos. Michael is so jealous as that is on his bucket list. We’ll have to wait and see how they like it. So glad we got to see them.
We left around 4:30 PM and headed out to Morro Bay. The drive was beautiful. We got to our hotel around 7:00 PM. It’s an old hotel but they’ve tried to update it a little. Morro Bay is a fun little town and we’re looking forward to checking it out. (I used to live here for a year or so back in the late 1960’s.) So far it doesn’t look like it’s grown very much but will know more tomorrow when it’s daylight. We’re also looking forward to driving up Highway 1 through Big Sur and back to Prunedale.
We are now tuckered out and ready for TV and sleep. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
