Durango, Colorado – 4/17/2015
April 17, 2015 (Friday)
Well today was a work day for us. We finally got caught up on the blog – to include the costs and itinerary. They are separated by years now.
Mike here, on a side note – when we checked in last Saturday, I insisted on unloading the car by myself. Normally Edie follows and makes sure nothing falls off the cart. They have great carts here and I figured it would be a snap. I brought in all the bags, kitchen stuff, had it loaded pretty good. Yesterday I went looking for the long lens for our second trip to Mesa Verde National Park. I could not find it. I went through the car and then again through the unit, nothing. I was just sick. A fairly expensive Canon long lens, a really nice GoPro from brother John, and a $13.00 pair of thorlo socks, the best in the world. The bag had to have fallen off the dog gone cart. Hoping beyond hope, I asked at the front desk if anyone had turned in a black bag. The young man went to the office just behind him and said, “there is someone asking about a black bag.” A nice young woman (that had previously helped me with some printing and given me a duplicate key) came out and asked me, “what is in the bag?” I didn’t want to say as I felt pretty incompetent, but I told her, “a long lens and a GoPro.” She said that Todd, the maintenance man, found it last Saturday and turned it in. She said, “He said not to give it to just anyone, cause there is a new GoPro in there. Make them tell you what is in it.” I was so relieved and happy. They got it for me and we wanted to do a little more than a “thanks,” so on our outing we got some little gifts to buy. Mike out.
Around 2:30 PM, we got hungry and went out on the streets of Durango. It was cold today (30’s) but the walk warmed us up. We walked a few blocks and stopped at a Starbucks where we bought a $25.00 gift card. We kept walking and ended up at the Strater Hotel. It’s a really cool place in that the workers dress up like in the old West. The food was excellent.
After we ate, we walked back to our home but stopped at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory for a little treat. We bought a box of candies for the front office staff.
We delivered the gifts, Starbucks for Todd and candy for the office staff. I did some laundry and we are packing and getting ready to leave early in the morning. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
